Nine Star Ki is built on the Chinese "nine stars" and on Yin-Yang and the Five Elements, and was systematised in Japan. Depending on the year of your birth — measured from Risshun, around 4 February, not from 1 January — you belong to one of nine stars, from 1 White Water to 9 Purple Fire. That star is read as describing your innate temperament, the direction your energy runs, who you get on with, and the compass direction that belongs to you.
Set by your birth year. The foundation of your life — the character other people actually meet.
Set by your birth month. Your interior, your childhood nature — the private self only close people see.
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water. Each of the nine stars belongs to one of them, and that is what compatibility is calculated from.
